ASUS Eee PC 1005HA - the cheaper version of Seashell

The ones who follow the development of the great notebook family Eee PC, probably remember the new launched design by the 1008HA model nicknamed Seashell. The fact that it looks somehow with MacBook Air caused a wave of interest, especially thanks to the fact that it has an integrated battery. Although it would not fool any Apple fan, Eee PC Seashell brings a welcomed design update and it is the first from a series which could be as serving as the previous. Not too much time has passed and here are the first less exclusive models than 1008HA, more precisely: 1005HA-H and 1005HA-M.

They are different by configuration, the first having more common elements with 1008HA: the Intel Atom N280 processor, the 10 inch glare screen with LED backlight and Bluetooth module. The 1005HA-M model comes with the old Atom N270 processor and matte screen, but also with LED backlight. Comparing with the first Seashell, the two 1005HA have 3 USB ports. Also, the plastic from the lower part of the case is not shiny. There is remarking a difference between the batteries of the two twins, 1005HA-H being equipped with a 6 cell one and 2800 mAh compared to the 2200 mAh from the other. Between the common equipment we can enumerate: 1 GB of RAM memory, a 160 GB hard drive and the Windows XP Home Edition operating system.

ASUS Eee PC 1000HV with separate graphics card

Although they did not make it official, ASUS Eee PC 1000HV mysteriously appeared in a chain of stores in Italy and surprisingly is that it is offering a separate graphics card. In essence, this is a Eee PC 1000HE, announced at the beginning of the year, in which it has been mounted an AMD HD 3450 graphics card with 256 MB of video memory. Like the initial model, 1000HV is equipped with the newest Intel Atom N280. Besides it there are found the Intel GN40 chipset, 1 GB of RAM memory, a 160 GB hard drive, the Bluetooth module and a wireless card with 802.11 b / g / n support.

Unfortunately for the multi monitor configurations amateurs, the video VGA D-Sub out has not been replaced with a digital DVI or HDMI one. The question we are asking ourselves is related to the utility of the additional card. It could support some easy 3D games, but the processor won't help too much. The operating system with which the Eee PC 1000HV is delivered is also Windows XP. We can talk about decoding High Definition movies, but until it won't prove this on our desk, we won't talk about it. The promised autonomy by 1000HE of 9.5 hours is reduced in its case to maximum 5 hours, with a generous 6 cell battery. The price of such a toy can vary between $400 and $600 and we don't even know for sure if the 10 inch screen has LED backlight. At least the keyboard with separate keys has been kept.
